Aside from marrying the person of your dreams, your wedding day is a time for love and celebration with your friends and family. Of course, every bride wants to make the day as memorable as possible from the food and decor to the music and dance. Besides your first dance as a married couple, your father daughter (or any other family member!) dance is another unforgettable moment. Here are some tips for making the most of these three to five minutes with your dad:
#1 – Pick a song that is meaningful for the two of you! Perhaps you used to listen to one together when you were a child, or you share the same favorite tune. The song itself doesn’t necessarily have to be about this moment in time, but can be a tribute to your relationship together. Need some help picking a song? Here are a few that have us head over heels:
- My Little Girl – Tim McGraw
- My Wish – Rascal Flatts
- Isn’t She Lovely – Stevie Wonder
- Wherever You Will Go – Charlene Soraia
#2 – Ask your videographer or a friend to film the dance. In the moment, it can be overwhelming when trying to take everything in and this will give you the opportunity to revisit this memory. And of course it’s important that make sure your photographer gets close-up shots so you can see your smiles (and accessories) shining through! Need some hair accessory inspiration? #3 – Include a snippet of the dance video in a gift for your dad, so he can cherish the moment forever! OR Plan out ahead of time a few memories from your childhood to chat with dad about during your dance. It’ll give you two some nostalgia while making new memories together.
#4 – On the big day, thank your dad by presenting him with a personalized gift (watch, bow tie, cuff-links) to commemorate this moment. Have the gift engraved with your song or wedding date. And don’t forget to have your photographer get shots of these with your accessories!
#5 – Sign up for dancing lessons! You and your dad can bond while learning together, and show off your new moves at the reception.
Whatever style or song you choose, just remember to make it all about your dad and you, and have fun!
